Supporting education in Cuispes

Travel responsibly with Phima Voyages – whether or not you pass through Chachapoyas.

At Phima Voyages, we aim to create a positive impact on the places and communities we introduce to our travelers. Since October 2024, we’ve been supporting the public primary school of Cuispes (IE 18083), a small mountain village about 1 hour and 15 minutes from Chachapoyas, in the heart of the Peruvian Andes.

Why We Support the School in Cuispes

Our commitment to the school stems from our deep connection to the village of Cuispes. The school welcomes 21 children aged 6 to 12, from first to sixth grade. It is a community school where the principal, Señor Dante Vargas Santillán, and his wife – both teachers – take care of the full education of all six levels by themselves.

Concrete Support for Education in Cuispes

A Solidarity Contribution Included in Every Trip

To support rural tourism development in northern Peru, every traveler contributes automatically 20 soles per trip, directly donated to the school. Whether or not you personally visit the school, your journey already makes a difference.
It’s our way of acting locally and ensuring a long-term positive impact.

Raising Awareness Among the Young Generation

Beyond financial aid, we want to build a connection between the students and the values of sustainable tourism. During our visits to the school, we talk to the children about environmental protection, local wildlife, and how respectful tourism can help preserve cultural traditions.

School Supplies and Educative Actions

Preparing for the 2025 School Year: Complete School Kits

Although public education is free in Peru, many families struggle to afford school supplies. In 2025, Phima Voyages provided complete school kits for all 21 students, with a total donation of approximately 2,600 soles.

Each child received: a backpack, notebooks, pencils, a pencil case, a ruler, glue, and a Phima Voyages water bottle to encourage eco-friendly daily habits.

The purchase and distribution of the kits were organized by Sheila, a member of our team based in Chachapoyas, on the first day of school – March 18, 2025.

Our local Team Committed to Education and Culture

On July 17, 2025, Sheila returned to the school to lead a creative workshop on building cardboard sarcophagi of Karajía, a fun and educational activity focused on local heritage and history.

Sheila is also a role model for the young girls of the village, who are the majority in the classrooms. She shows them that new paths are possible.
