The story behind Phima Voyages

Behind Phima Voyages are Philippe and Martina Capel, a French-German couple with over 20 years of experience in the hospitality and tourism industries.

Having fallen in love with northern Peru—and its wealth of archaeological and natural wonders—we are driven by a passion to make a positive impact for both our local partners and you, the traveler.

Our Beginnings

In January 2015, we arrived in Chachapoyas—the capital of the Amazonas region—with our two young sons. We quickly realized we wanted to dedicate ourselves to promoting and developing this region. Amazonas is one of Peru’s poorest regions, yet it is simultaneously one of the richest in terms of archaeological sites and natural beauty.

Encouraged by local industry professionals, we founded Phima Voyages in March 2015. Since then, we have specialized in responsible, rural tourism across northern Peru.

What We Do

At Phima, we offer “slow travel” experiences that allow you to truly immerse yourself in the local culture. You can choose between charming hotels and authentic homestays.

Together with our local partners, we have curated a wide range of traditional activities for you. Options include weaving or traditional dance workshops, cooking classes, coffee or cacao workshops, and much more.

We regularly travel throughout the northern regions to meet new partners and discover unique, off-the-beaten-path activities.

Training and Development

We work hand-in-hand with local communities and rural entrepreneurs, helping them structure their activities and prepare to welcome our travelers. To this end, we have introduced online courses and training sessions to complement our on-site support.

As you can see, with Phima, you are guaranteed a unique trip—one that allows you to truly experience the country in a way that goes far beyond a standard tour.
