The magic and beauty of the region Amazonas

6 Days / 5 Nights

This great trip to the Amazonas region in Northern Peru will bring you closer to the Peruvians, but as well the different ecosystems of this region. You will stay a few nights in a home-stay and will share unforgettable moments with your hosts.

Day 1: Chachapoyas – Huancas – Chachapoyas

Huancas is a nice little village close to Chachapoyas that sticks out by its renown craft in the domain of pottery production. This activity was proclaimed National Cultural Patrimony in 2012. Once we have visited the village, we will go by feet to the impressive Canyon of the river Sonche. Overnight in Chachapoyas.

Day 2: Chachapoyas – Kuelap – Milpuj – Chachapoyas

We leave Chachapoyas in the morning to visit Kuelap, the most important archaeological site with over 450 constructions and other demonstrations of the great work of the Chachapoyan culture.

On our road back from the fortress of Kuelap we will visit the Private Conservation Area of Milpuj, one of the rare private engagements to conserve the biodiversity of the country and pioneer in the region of Amazonas.

Back for overnight stay in Chachapoyas.

Day 3: Chachapoyas – Waterfall Gocta – Chachapoyas

Transportation up to the village of Cocachimba, not far away from the Utcubamba and our starting point towards the waterfalls of Gocta. The six viewpoints that we will pass on our 3-hour hike will offer us each a different view on this spectacular waterfall, one of the highest in the world, that had only been revealed in 2006 ! On our hike we will have the opportunity to observe different kind of insects, butterflies, orchids and bromeliads. In the calmer parts and if we have chance we might even see a “gallito de las rocas” or a famous Spatuletail Hummingbird. Overnight in Chachapoyas.

Day 4: Chachapoyas – Izcuchaca – Laguna of Huamanpata

Transportation to Rodriguez de Mendoza. On our way we will stop at the Palmtree Area of Ocol. Once we arrive at Izcuchaca we will start our 4-hour hike to the Laguna of Huamanpata. During the Laguna season, from February to July, we will get to Roberto’s homestay by canoe. During the dry season, the laguna disappears and we can reach the house by walking on the river board for about 45 minutes. At the home stay we will be pampered with delicious local food for lunch and dinner.

After we have taken up some strength, we will decide which one of the many different excursions we want to do today: the orchid road, the observatory road, the monkey road, or just a stroll through the laguna or go on a canoe trip with the possibility of fishing some trout. (This last option is obviously depending on the season.).

Day 5: Laguna of Huamanpata

After a great healthy breakfast, we will choose our program of today from what we haven’t done yesterday. In the evening, legends around the fire place. Another night at Roberto’s homestay.

Day 6: Laguna of Huamanpata – Rodriguez de Mendoza

After our last breakfast with Roberto’s family and a last view on this beautiful region, we will reach Rodriguez de Mendoza by another road than the one we came in two days ago. In the afternoon we will visit the thermal bath of Tocuya, situated close to the river Gebil and well known for its water with medicinal virtues. (Attention: the water is warm, but not hot!).

Return to Chachapoyas and end of our services.
